A Monastery with a Long Life
La Monastica began its story in the early 1500s as the Monastery of Santa Scolastica, built for a community of nuns seeking peace and purpose. For centuries this place lived through changes — expansions, periods of abandonment, transformations, and moments when it almost disappeared into time itself.
The reconstruction of the monastery as a resort was a long, deliberate process that began in 2005 and continued for nearly two decades. Architects, historians, and master artisans worked with meticulous care to preserve original stone, restore architectural details, and revive fresco fragments while integrating modern comforts in a way that feels utterly natural.
After years of restoration that respected both form and spirit, the convent reopened its doors as La Monastica Resort & Spa in 2024, transforming forgotten cells into elegant rooms and the ancient chapel into an atmospheric restaurant overlooking the valley below.
Walking through the cloister today, you sense continuity rather than revival — centuries of quiet life preserved rather than erased.
