Four Seasons Mallorca at Formentor
Formentor’s Hidden Gem: A New Luxurious Resort
by Anastasia Bluhm
As you leave the sunlit streets of Palma behind, the journey to Cape Formentor becomes a sensory ode to Mallorca’s untamed beauty. The road twists and climbs, carving through landscapes that shift like scenes from a Mediterranean dream. First, the Serra de Tramuntana mountains rise ahead—a UNESCO World Heritage tapestry of terraced olive groves, ancient stone walls, and villages clinging to cliffsides like swallows’ nests. Through your window, the play of light transforms the slopes: emerald shadows in the valleys, golden sunbursts on the ridges, and flashes of the Balearic Sea, its waters so blue they seem to borrow color from the sky.

By the time you arrive at Four Seasons Mallorca, the journey itself feels like a prologue to magic. Here, where the mountains meet the sea, luxury is not just crafted—it’s whispered by the wind, woven into the cliffs, and reflected in waters that defy imagination.

Hotel's history
Nestled on Mallorca’s breathtaking Formentor Peninsula, this iconic resort traces its origins to 1929, when Argentine entrepreneur and art enthusiast Adán Diehl transformed the rugged coastline into a haven for creativity and sophistication. Originally named Hotel Formentor, it became a magnet for global luminaries, hosting figures like literary Nobel laureates Camilo José Cela and Mario Vargas Llosa, as well as Hollywood legend Grace Kelly, who famously visited during her European travels. The hotel’s legacy as a cultural hub was cemented through events like the Formentor Novel Prize and Conversaciones Poéticas, gatherings that drew intellectuals and artists from across the globe.

Designed with modernist elegance, the property pioneered luxuries such as telephones, electric lighting, and bespoke details like handwoven Pollença linens and Baccarta crystal. After decades of storied history, Four Seasons embarked on a meticulous restoration, reopening the resort in 2024 with a focus on preserving its heritage. Original façades and artisanal touches were carefully restored, while modern upgrades—including solar energy systems and LEED Gold certification—bridged its past with sustainable innovation.
From the moment I entered my terrace suite, it was clear this wasn’t just a room—it was a seamless blend of innovation and tranquility. The design struck a perfect balance between sleek modernity and comfort, with clean lines, expansive windows, and an open layout that let the natural light dance across every corner.

But the true magic unfolded outside. The terrace, a private slice of paradise, offered panoramic views of Mallorca’s rugged cliffs and the endless Mediterranean horizon. Whether sipping morning coffee as the sun painted the sky or unwinding at dusk to the sound of waves, it became my sanctuary.

The resort offers a collection of serene pools designed to complement its Mediterranean setting:
- Main Infinity Pool: Overlooking the Bay of Pollença, this adults-only pool blends seamlessly with the horizon, surrounded by sun loungers and private cabanas. Enjoy poolside service with fresh fruit skewers, chilled towels, and signature cocktails.
- Family Pool: A shallow, temperature-controlled pool perfect for children, shaded by ancient olive trees and adjacent to the Kids For All Seasons activity zone.
- Private Plunge Pools: Select suites and villas feature secluded plunge pools on terraces or gardens, ideal for intimate relaxation.
Formentor Beach is an incredibly picturesque destination, renowned for its crystal-clear turquoise waters and framed by swaying palm trees and fragrant pine forests that provide shade and tranquility. Located on the northern coast of Mallorca, this beach captivates visitors with its golden sands , rugged cliffs, and lush greenery, making it one of the Mediterranean’s most photogenic spots. In 2023, Formentor Beach was once again awarded the prestigious Blue Flag, a testament to its environmental cleanliness, safety standards, and excellent facilities. The well-developed tourist area offers comfortable sunbeds, restaurants serving local cuisine, and scenic walking trails through the pine groves. With its pristine waters and immaculate surroundings, Formentor appeals to both relaxation seekers and nature enthusiasts, embodying a perfect harmony of untouched beauty and modern comfort.
