A Luxurious Escape at Four Seasons Hotel Milano
My Personal Experience
by Anastasia Bluhm
A Historic Gem in Milan’s Fashion Heartbeat

Nestled in the heart of Milan’s iconic Fashion District at Via Gesù 6/8, Four Seasons Hotel Milano is a sanctuary of elegance just steps from the Duomo and the glamorous Via Monte Napoleone . I loved how its 15th-century convent origins blended seamlessly with modern sophistication—think Renaissance frescoes alongside Patricia Urquiola’s contemporary redesigns. The location is unbeatable: a 10-minute walk to Galleria Vittorio Emanuele and a 12-minute stroll to the Duomo’s awe-inspiring spires.
Originally a 15th-century convent, the building’s transformation is a masterpiece of preservation. During renovation in the 1990s, workers uncovered frescoed ceilings and hidden cloisters, rewriting its history from "palace" to sacred space. Having stayed here five times, I’ve experienced both the charm of the historic wing and the tranquility of rooms overlooking the internal courtyard.
On my most recent visit, I stayed in a newly redesigned room—a seamless blend of contemporary elegance and timeless Milanese character.

The design made an immediate statement: a deep burgundy wall served as a dramatic backdrop for an equally rich burgundy sofa, accented with dove-gray silk pillows. Flanking the sofa, two minimalist display stands showcased carefully curated art objects—sculptures, vases, and framed photographs of Milan. The marble bathroom was a true sanctuary, its surfaces gleaming with luxurious stone, while the freestanding tub offered serene views of the historic streets below—a captivating perspective as I soaked.
The Courtyard: A Secret Garden Oasis

The cloistered courtyard is the hotel’s soul. Once a convent herb garden, today it’s a shaded Eden with shielded from Milan’s buzz. One evening, a private aperitivo unfolded under fairy lights—local Lombardy cheeses, truffle-infused focaccia, and Franciacorta bubbly served on a stone table. This space isn’t just pretty; it’s a time machine where centuries of tranquility linger.

Step beyond the hushed lobby into the cloistered courtyard – the hotel’s living soul. Once a 15th-century convent herb garden shaded by ancient lemon trees and draped in climbing ivy, it’s now a sanctuary where trickling fountains whisper history. Fairy lights twinkle as golden hour sets in, transforming this hidden Eden into the most enchanting aperitivo stage in Milan. This is where I always gather my Milanese friends.

Our ritual? Sublime cocktails and irresistible bites. The Negroni here rivals any in the Four Seasons family – pure perfection. Their Aperol Spritz is sunshine in a glass: crisp, vibrant, essential. Share plates of decadent Truffle Fries (generously truffled!), chunky Guacamole with salty nachos, and light Tempura Vegetables. Laughter blends with the fountain’s murmur, glasses clink... this is dolce far niente.
Champagne Breakfast: Golden Mornings at Four Seasons Milano

Sunlight spills over the lemon trees, fountains murmur in the cloistered courtyard—and then arrives the art of morning luxury. The Champagne Breakfast here isn’t just a meal; it’s a sonnet to la dolce vita. My ritual begins with Dom Pérignon in crystal—its fine bubbles dancing like light on water.

Then, the feast unfolds:
- Silken scrambled eggs, crowned generously with jet-black caviar—each pearl a burst of ocean richness against creamy velvet.
- The toast of dreams: Crusty read piled high with velvety green avocado and folds of cool-smoked salmon, finished with a whisper of lemon.
- Croissant alchemy: A masterpiece of buttery layers, split open to reveal clouds of vanilla-scented cream, its surface gleaming with edible gold leaf—dawn served on porcelain.

As dappled light traces the ivy above, you’ll understand: this is how Milan greets the day.
Zelo Restaurant: An Evening of Milanese Magic

Dinner at Zelo unfolds like a perfectly choreographed scene. Securing a table by the floor-to-ceiling windows as twilight deepens is key - the cloistered courtyard transforms into a twinkling wonderland under fairy lights, setting an unmatched romantic backdrop.
Inside, the ambiance strikes a balance of timeless elegance (think crisp linens, warm woods) and modern Milanese cool.

The culinary journey begins with a showstopper: their Grilled Octopus. Tender, smoky tentacles rest on a mosaic of crushed potatoes, punctuated by vibrant roasted peppers and fragrant rosemary oil - a symphony of Mediterranean flavors. For the main, the Grilled Sea Bass is unmissable: impossibly crisp skin giving way to pearlescent, moist flesh, bathed in a vibrant acqua pazza tomato-herb broth. Save room for their Tiramisu - a light, airy deconstruction that sings with espresso and mascarpone.
Pro tip: Book after 8 PM. That's when the courtyard's magic peaks, and the gentle hum of the room embodies la dolce vita. Pure Milanese magic.
Milan’s Hidden Spa

Step into a cocoon of designer tranquility at the Four Seasons Milano Spa, where Patricia Urquiola’s vision transforms 19th-century vaulted spaces into a sanctuary of hushed luxury. The centerpiece—a luminous 14-meter indoor pool—invites serene laps beneath historic arches, while signature treatments like the Italian Aromatherapy Ritual melt urban fatigue with Calabrian bergamot and Tuscan olive oils. Guests unwind in steam rooms or relaxation lounges with herbal infusions, mere steps from Milan’s fashion frenzy yet worlds away from its pulse.
